AMHERST - CHARLOTTESVILLE

A photo of the BUS/US 29 split in Sweet Briar, VA

And speaking of Sweet Briar....
(Sweet Briar is, in fact, a women's college. Women's colleges ftw)

On US 29 BUS NB.

A gaggle of signage around US 60 in Amherst.

Another BUS US 29 exit north of Amherst.

Oh, I get it. Because going straight is obviously equal to turning right...

Two pan shots in Lovingston. Click the first one for a close-up of the rightmost sign.

CHARLOTTESVILLE

Yay for blue signs! VirginiaU is right inside Charlottesville, so it's to be expected.

A gantry shot of the US 29/IH 64 interchange signage. A close inspection of the image would reveal that...

...the exit to IH 64 WB is a left exit! Which wouldn't be too bad, except for the fact that...

... there's no ramp! You actually have to cross US 29 SB!

Moving along, here is a photo of the US 29/250 interchange. US 250 EB merges with US 29 NB here.

Some signage for the exit to Barracks Road/VA 654.

The bypass comes to an end. Note the 15 MPH EXIT.

It might be hard to see from this angle, but US 29 is up there, and also down here. Which means it just made a very tight 180. Don't come here in rush hour - you will be swamped utterly. Click for a close-up of the topmost sign.

Tee hee.

CHARLOTTESVILLE - CULPEPER
=
Intersection with Wolftown-Hood Road/VA 230 in Shelby, VA. US 29 and VA 230 are multiplexed for all of two seconds here.

A bit farther up in Madison, VA 230 goes on its own and VA 231 multiplexes US 29. VA 231 then leaves for US 29's business route.

Said business route's northern terminus in Madison.

Another BUS 29 photo, this time with Fishback Road/VA 722 sneaking in.

CULPEPER and BEYOND

Two gantry shots for BUS 29 and VA 299. (VA 99 is nowhere to be found)

A gantry's worth a thousand words.

US 15/US 29 interchange in Culpeper and multiplex for a little while.

The US 522/VA 3 interchange just outside Culpeper.

Assorted wide shots in and around Brandy Station, VA. Click the last one for a close-up.

US 15/29 meet VA 28 and US 17 in Remington-Bealeton.

The northbound split occurs here: if you're going for NoVA and Washington DC, follow US 29. If you're heading for anything in the Shenandoah, head for US 17.

Lots of BUSes in Warrenton. US 15/17/29 make for a triple multiplex (even though US 29 should be quite west of the rest).

And now for something completely different.

too. many. US routes.

Right outside Warrenton, it's your choice.

One final (ugly) shot in Gainesville.

Go back home...
