CULPEPER - CHARLOTTESVILLE

Two photos of the US 29/US 29 BUS split in the Culpeper business district.

Another BUS split, this time in Madison.

A bit of tag teaming in Shelby, VA as US 29 and VA 230 team up (briefly) and VA 231 splits up.

Some more signage, with some VA secondary routes.

Here at the split between US 29 and.. what's this? US 33 going east? Someone call USDOT and tell them to wake up.
(US 33 runs in a general NW/SE direction from Indiana to Richmond -- talk about directionally challenged!)

Airport signage in Earlysville.

Intersection in Hollymead -- is it me, or does Hollymead look a lot like Hollywood?

CHARLOTTESVILLE

Heading south towards Charlottesville, you come to "The Loop". It's actually a mutated cloverleaf, but it's hell depending on what direction you're going.

Call me immature, but I still get imagery of pumped-up, pimped-out cars when that comes to mind.

That's right, there are two bypasses in Charlottesville. The US 29 bypass heads south and crosses IH 64; the US 250 bypass is rather incomplete and turns into a boulevard before crossing city limits. I took the former.

The first "exit" on the bypass is for Barracks Road/VA 654.

Three photos indicate the second "exit" for US/BUS 250.

The first turn beckons.

Down the line a bit, the third "exit" is for Fontaine Ave/BUS 29.

End of the line at the IH 64 interchange. Nice use of the 1/3 mile marker -- don't see that too often.

One last photo.

CHARLOTTESVILLE - AMHERST

The intersection with Irish Road/VA 6 in Faber, VA.

Just like water to a printed photograph, water to a digital photograph doesn't help much either. US 29 and VA 6 do team up for four or so miles however.

I have been looking for a specimen for years now, and I have finally found it! My first 'Y' suffix route. This one is more or less an access ramp.

Yet another business route, here in Lovingston, VA. Also in Lovingston: the VA 56 intersection.

AMHERST, LYNCHBURG, AND THE LAND OF MANY BYPASSES

Approaching the BUS 29 Amherst split north of Amherst.

A gantry's worth a thousand words.

Down a ways is US 60.

Oh no, not again!

The newest bypass starts in Sweet Briar, VA and canvasses Amherst County to Lynchburg City.

Another gantry shot.

It may not be best, but it's last. This is where I got off.

Go back home...
